Elsa Chow, Vice President - AML Compliance Regulatory, Walkers
Global MBA 2022
Drawn by the University’s international presence and the opportunity to connect with classmates and professors from across the world, I decided to embark on the Global MBA. Although COVID greatly impacted the way the course was structured, its value was still paramount, guiding me through various career challenges in ways both holistic and practical.
Through collaborating with classmates from different cultural and professional backgrounds, I learnt how to communicate more effectively when leading a multicultural team, and to resolve related conflicts with greater dexterity and creativity. Undoubtedly, these soft skills helped elevate my workplace performance while propelling my career forward – in February this year, I was recruited to Walkers Hong Kong in a strategic role.
Balancing work, studies and family could be stressful, but I was guided by my personal motto – if you want something badly enough, you can and you will! That said, good time management is key, especially if distinction is the goal.
David Leung, Assistant Director, Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre
Global MBA 2020
As an engineer in a highly technical role who wishes to expand my business knowledge and increase my global network, the Manchester Global MBA was a godsend. On one hand, it enriched my business and finance knowledge with its practical approach, which delved deep into the latest market trends and developments.
At the same time, it provided fascinating exposure to a cohort from all over the world, through which I gained invaluable friendships as well as crucial business ties. My experience at two Shanghai electives furthered my appreciation of the course high delivery standards, as well as its global nature. In fact, I was planning to attend another workshop in Manchester or Japan when the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately hit.
Throughout the course, I was spurred by this motto – begin with the end in mind. Right from the start, I had a clear plan of finishing this programme with flying colours within two years. As such, I shifted my schedule and spent many early mornings or weekends completing assignments or attending workshops. That said, I was certainly aided by the programme's flexible design! Even when my schedule is most hectic, I find that it doesn’t place undue demand on my attempts to juggle work, family and studies.

Global MBA 2022
As someone whose job involves everything from creating educational programmes to devising business strategies, I was aiming for an MBA with a diverse, multi-pronged approach. From the get-go, the Manchester Global MBA impressed with its offer of an invigorating learning environment and a highly practical curriculum. Not only did it push me to think more analytically during decision-making processes, it also led me to fully embrace data analytics in my work.
Successfully juggling work, studies and family life was sometimes hard, but because of the programme's flexible nature, I thrived. What it really boiled down to was self-discipline and good time management skills. By devoting after-work hours to academic projects and assignments, I managed to leave my weekends free for family activities. And by catching up on readings whenever time allows, I stayed on top of things.

Global MBA 2013
I am from the US but now living in Hong Kong. I attended most of my workshops here, however, going to another centre for a workshop was a great learning experience. I went to Dubai to take an ethics course where I met students from the Middle East and Africa. In my workshop, I was assigned a case study on a recent ruling not to allow high court female judges in Egypt which was so foreign to me. This case study has broadened my exposure and thinking.
Gilles Marino, Deputy CEO, Sales & Marketing – Managing Director, South Asia, Clestra
Global MBA 2022
As a seasoned general manager with extensive Asia experience, the Manchester Global MBA was a perfect fit for my career ambitions, not least because it was brimming with practical insight underpinned by the “Manchester Method”. I found the modules on leadership, finance and marketing especially enlightening, both in my role as Managing Director (South Asia) and as a key member of the global marketing team. Specifically, the digital marketing strategy elective was crucial in helping me successfully set up my company’s new online communication tools for the years to come.
Thanks to the Global MBA and how it effectively widened my skill-set, new opportunities arose at work, and I was given more responsibilities at a Group level to strengthen the relationships between the EMEA and Asia regions.
The programme’s flexibility was an added bonus, as it accommodated my hectic work life while giving me the space to follow my own study schedule. The firm friendships I’ve formed with my cohort mates from Hong Kong and beyond, meanwhile, really lit up my academic journey. To this day, I’m still in touch with many of them!

Global MBA 2020
Keen to expand my business management knowledge beyond the field of HR, I enrolled in Manchester Global MBA. Flexible in scheduling, global in scope and comprehensive in its educational approach, the degree was an unmissable learning experience.
First off, its practical nature meant that much of what I learnt in class was immediately applicable to the workplace, and in many ways, the degree propelled me towards my current role as regional Head of HR at a French Tier-1 automotive manufacturing firm by arming me with the necessary management and strategic smarts. Meanwhile, through immersive workshops held at Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Manchester, I got to collaborate with a diversity of students who are united by a common goal: to work hard and play hard.
Honestly, I could not have completed the degree without their unstinting support, and their continued presence in my life has been a true gift!
Tetsuya Oura, President & Representative Director, BayWa r.e. Japan K.K.
Global MBA 2019
I was keen to make up for my relative lack of managerial and leadership capabilities and in so doing expand my career. Local MBA programmes in Japan are becoming popular, but I believed that Manchester Global MBA has the edge when it comes to offering global exposure. Thanks to this programme , my career blossomed in new directions – with an offer of a new role at BayWa r.e. Japan K.K even before the degree has been awarded.
The flexible nature of the programme meant that I did not feel stressed out at all by the schedule. In fact, I went on mountain climbing and skiing trips with my family several times a year even during the programme, and I have fond memories of reading up on course materials by the pool! The programme is so well-arranged that I find it easy to cope if I simply follow the proposed timeline. And even though I missed my last elective in Hong Kong due to a passport issue, I made up for it by taking the exact same module the following month in Manchester. This embedded seamlessness is what I love about the programme.
Ilyoung Hong, General Manager, Le Cordon Bleu
Global MBA 2018
My MBA journey coincided with a leap forward in my career. Part of the July 2015 intake, in 2016 I was appointed as the representative Director at Le Cordon Bleu Japan Inc. while retaining my core duties as General Manager of Le Cordon Bleu Korea Inc. Studying for my MBA is a feat that is well-recognised by the President of my company, directly leading to my promotion, as well as opportunities to participate in global projects.
I would like to thank Professor Ismail Ertürk in particular, who facilitated my invitation to the Global Gastronomy Summit 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey, where, as a guest speaker, I shared my insights regarding the globalisation of local cuisine.
I credit my study group and my family’s support as essential factors towards my success in balancing work and study.
Seung Kyo Shin, Head of SCM (Healthcare Department), Philips Korea
Global MBA 2021
With more than a decade’s experience in finance and marketing gained at a multinational company, I was looking to accelerate my career with an MBA programme that’s global, practical and flexible. The Manchester Global MBA ticked all the right boxes. Not only was I immersed in an all-English learning environment emphasizing cultural diversity, I was able to boost my skills in everything from daily negotiations to operations. Although face-to-face workshops were replaced with virtual ones due to the pandemic, I still had a great experience filled with plenty of invigorating exchanges.
This MBA offers great flexibility, but I would say that good time management is still crucial. By focusing on my work during weekdays and devoting my weekends and holidays to MBA studies, I was able to complete the course on schedule. It had certainly been a worthwhile journey! Formerly a strategic marketing manager, I was promoted to the Head of Sales Operation after embarking on the MBA. As of now, I’m the Head of SCM in the Healthcare Department at my company.
Jerry Chen, CFO, Schneider Electric Taiwan Ltd
Global MBA 2020
I come from a finance and accounting background, but was keen to take on bigger business challenges through boosting my analytical and problem-solving skills as well as by widening my professional network. The Manchester Global MBA - innovative in spirit and practical in approach, proved a real game-changer in terms of pushing me to think outside the box.
The Negotiation Skills elective was a real highlight - even though I didn’t gain a stellar score, I certainly emerged from the course more confident of daily negotiations in the workplace - whether with customers, bosses, subordinates or other internal stakeholders. Of course, none of this is possible without support from my fellow classmates, who never cease to impress me with their superb levels of engagement despite hectic schedules!
