The Kaleidoscope of International Business – Evolving Phenomena, Big Questions, and Grand Challenges
We are living through a period of great economic, political, and social change, one epitomised by the rise of ‘grand challenges’ such as climate change, global inequalities and digital transformation.
These challenges are particularly acute for businesses operating on a global scale, so much so that research into the challenges has come to dominate the very study of international business itself, alongside the use of interdisciplinary research methods.
In his inaugural lecture, eminent global business expert Professor Peter Buckley will explore how we should apply international business theory as global circumstances change. In particular, he will take us on a 60-year journey of international business theory itself, looking at how we create and react to theory, and how we are now using it to address the grand challenges.
As he says, the strength of international business theory has been, and continues to be, its efficacy in explaining key global phenomena. “This is a challenging task that requires continuous improvement in theory and in its application to international business practice and policy.”
