MSc International Human Resource Management and Comparative Industrial Relations, Class of 2016

Why did you choose to study this Masters course at Alliance Manchester Business School?
I chose to study International Human Resource Management and Comparative Industrial Relations at Alliance MBS because the UK has a worldwide reputation for excellent academic education and Alliance MBS in particular has very good rankings for HRM. The University of Manchester is one of only a few universities offering International HRM. Its great reputation, its research excellence and its highly skilled tutors shaped my decision to travel to Manchester.

What were you doing before your MSc?
Before starting at Alliance MBS, I was working as Human Resource Business Partner with an Auto OEM in India. I decided to study in the UK and chose Alliance MBS because of its excellent reputation.

What are your career plans after graduation?
I want to use my human resource knowledge and work within an international organisation to capitalise on my international experience and to keep meeting interesting people.

What is the best thing about studying at Alliance MBS?
Besides the opportunity to make friends from around the world, the best thing for me is I feel I am growing and having new learning experiences each day. I’ve found that it’s about changing the way you think and that’s exciting to me.

How much time do you spend in classes and in private study?
I spend weekly 14h in class and if I am feeling motivated 15-20h of private study. During exam and course work submission times private study normally increases up to a maximum of 30h.

How would you describe your student experience so far?
My student experience as a Masters student has been quite busy and work filled, yet I still got to enjoy the typical student experiences. I got to enjoy Fresher's fair, Salsa dancing, playing basketball, Manchester's nightlife and met great people. Even though I am yearning to get hands on the books again, after a professional life, I really am enjoying myself!

What’s the best thing about living in Manchester?
I am in love with this city. Nightlife, theatre, art museum and galleries, shopping paradise, low cost of living, countryside, world class - our prestige - The University of Manchester. And I can’t miss to mention this.. "Sporting capital of the UK". But most of all, the people - a funny and friendly bunch.

What advice would you give to those considering studying at Alliance MBS?
This experience will be life changing and at the end of this journey you will feel more than rewarded for the decision that you made. Be prepared to work hard. Don’t be afraid of the challenge to live on your own as you will meet great people from around the world who share the same passion as you do. Take advantage of the exceptional career service that Alliance MBS offers and explore every opportunity to achieve your goals

The second piece of advice I would give is that Alliance MBS truly has a wonderful set of faculty. They are always ready to guide you and help you with whatever query or issue you may face. I can personally say that I have experienced some of the best teaching methods here.

What were your experiences of the residential session at Brathay in the Lake District?
Something I couldn’t afford to miss. I would like to thank the staff at Brathay and Alliance MBS for making this such a successful and wonderful event.  The facilitators were so friendly, helpful and positive!  Everyone that I spoke to had a great time and we really enjoyed getting to know each other and doing adventurous stuff. It was a fabulous way to kick off the first evening of our event! It was such a pleasure.
