Second year BSc (Hons) Accounting students participated in the annual Speed Networking and Interview session last month, as part of the Professional Accounting Practice course unit.
The Professional Accounting Practice course unit is designed to develop students' knowledge and understanding of ethics and employability in professional practice, helping them to navigate the graduate recruitment process.
Reimala Sivalingam, Programme Director and organiser of the event, explained: "This session provides the opportunity for students to speak to professionals to improve their interviewing skills and employability prospects."
Divided into three speed interview sessions, the event was followed by a networking fair, where students had the opportunity to field questions to the participating companies.
Equipping students for their future careers
In preparation of the event, students recently participated in a 1:1 interview practice session with professional coaches. This involved going through motivation questions and a competency-based question on problem-solving. The sessions helped the students to refine their interview techniques and better equip them for future interviews.
A student attending the event reflected: "The speed interview and network event provided a no pressure situation where me and others on my course were able to gain invaluable feedback from actual employers.
"Being able to actually converse with an employer and have the opportunity to also ask them questions was extremely useful to me, and demonstrated the importance of building these in person relationships when given the opportunity."
The event was attended by a range of companies, helping to provide students with an insight on the recruitment process and an opportunity to begin networking early on in their studies.
The Professional Accounting Practice course unit is a part of our BSc (Hons) Accounting course.
