We are delighted to announce that Nick Allen and John Wrathmell have been appointed to the Alliance Manchester Business School Advisory Board.
Nick is an independent non-executive director at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, CLP Holdings Limited and Mordril Properties Limited.
John is Senior Director for Strategy, Research & Economy at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
On his appointment, Nick said:
"I am honoured to be joining the AMBS Advisory Board and hope that my 40 years' experience in Hong Kong and China will enable me to add value from a different perspective to the collective advice the board provides to management."
John commented:
"I'm delighted to be joining the AMBS Advisory Board and continuing to strengthen the relationship between The University of Manchester and the city region. Greater Manchester has a growing business base and international networks which can benefit the Business School, while the University continues to play a crucial role in the city region's success."
Career history
Nick Allen
Nick's career started at Coopers & Lybrand, where he worked in the audit department and became a partner in Hong Kong in 1988. After spending 19 years as a partner, he retired from PwC in 2007.
He's remained very active in the corporate world by contributing his expertise in accounting and governance to several blue-chip companies in Hong Kong and overseas.
Nick is currently an independent non-executive director at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, CLP Holdings Limited and Mordril Properties Limited. He was also an independent non-executive director of Lenovo Group Limited, Hysan Development Limited, VinaLand Limited and Texon International Limited.
John Wrathmell
John is the Senior Director for Strategy, Research & Economy at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
In that role, he works with the Mayor and Leader in Greater Manchester on:
- The development and delivery of the Greater Manchester Strategy
- The negotiation of further devolution of powers and resources with the UK Government
- The delivery of economic and business programmes including on leadership, management and innovation.
John previously worked as an economist at HM Treasury and for Ed Miliband MP and Rachel Reeves MP as Head of Economic Policy at the Labour Party.
He also worked as Parliamentary Officer at Universities UK. He has an MSc in Economics from Birkbeck College, London, and a BA in Ancient & Modern History from University College, Oxford.
Advisory Board
The AMBS Advisory Board, which is chaired by Kenneth Lever, advises the School's leadership team on the development of the School's strategy. It supports with the development of corporate, institutional and governmental links and offers an external perspective on the School's products and services.
