Director of Masood Entrepreneurship Centre joins national group on social mobility

The Social Mobility Commission (SMC) has launched its new Economic Growth and Investment Group.

The Group brings together top entrepreneurs, business leaders, and economists to tackle social mobility challenges across the UK. Representing The University of Manchester, Aurore Hochard, Director of the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre, and Professor Richard Jones, Vice-President for Regional Innovation and Civic Engagement, will contribute their expertise to this vital initiative.

The Economic Growth and Investment Group comprises leading entrepreneurs, business experts and economists from different parts of the country. They will provide insight into the challenges affecting 'left behind' places.

Place-based approach

The SMC champions a place-based approach, harnessing the power of local leadership, entrepreneurship, and skills development to unlock growth in disadvantaged regions.

By integrating business innovation with a clear employment strategy, the Group aims to create tangible opportunities that drive economic transformation by making policy recommendations for Government to empower communities to break down persistent barriers to growth.

A pivotal moment

Aurore Hochard, Director of the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre, based at Alliance Manchester Business School, said: "I am honoured to join the Economic Growth and Investment Group at such a pivotal moment. Ensuring that investment and employment opportunities reach all communities is crucial, especially those in historically disadvantaged areas like the North West.

"Through collaboration with business leaders, policymakers and changemakers, we have a unique opportunity to design real-world solutions that foster entrepreneurship, innovation and deliver lasting social mobility."
