Celebrating success
This milestone moment celebrates the successes of the inaugural class for the BSc Business Accounting course, which is run in partnership with PwC and the ICAEW.
A drinks reception was held in the AMBS penthouse after their graduation ceremony, where students and their guests were invited to celebrate their momentous achievement.
A big occasion
As well as their families and guests, students were joined by a number of different speakers to celebrate. Head of AMBS, Professor Ken McPhail, congratulated the students. He reminded them of the importance of adaptability as the first cohort, and thanked them for their invaluable feedback. They've helped to shape and improve the programme, and will leave a lasting impact on the foundations of the course itself.
Programme Director, Claire Levison, commended the students on their resilience. She remarked on the skills the students gained outside of the course's structure, like adjusting to new challenges, and their increased confidence in a work setting over the duration of the course's integrated placements.
Professor Chris Humphrey, who supported the delivery of the programme, also gave a speech. Dan Brydon attended on behalf of PwC to applaud the students' success.
A staggering four students from BSc Business Accounting were presented with the Faculty of Humanities' Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. A further five students from the course won the Dean's award.
About the Accounting Flying Start degree programme
With its four-year structure, BSc Business Accounting blends a traditional university degree with integrated placements throughout the second, third and fourth year. This equips students with a varied skillset to seamlessly transition from academic study to a work environment after graduation.
The course runs in partnership with PwC and the ICAEW. You can find out more about the programme on the PwC website:
'During the degree you'll have three paid work placements at PwC, where you can enhance your teamwork and communication skills, as well as develop technical skills by incorporating emerging technology into your day-to-day role.
'The programme will also put you on track to becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant - you'll complete 80% of your ICAEW exams during the degree, and will be just over a year away from the full qualification once you graduate.'

Looking to the future
After four years of studying - three of which were partially spent in PwC's auditing department on placement - the students begin their graduate roles at PwC. All of the Class of 2024 received a graduate job offer and will be going on to work in offices in Manchester, London, Leeds and many other locations.
BSc Business Accounting student, Kyle Kaura, is joining PwC Cardiff. Kyle said:
"The course offers fantastic preparation for working at PwC in terms of the knowledge and skills you pick up along the way. But perhaps the most important thing was the relationships made with colleagues in the offices. You'll always have friends every time you return to the office. And it makes you look forward to joining full time."
