Alliance MBS Honorary Professor, Vikas Shah, has received the Member of the Order of the British Empire for Services to Business and the Economy in the New Year’s Honours List.
Among his many notable achievements, Vikas has built businesses in diverse sectors across the world for almost 20 years, such as management consultancy Thought Economics and property investment company While It’s Free. His senior positions include CEO of film company Fifty Three Degrees North, and managing director of leading commodities and textiles trader Swiscot Group.
A respected leader in the business community, Professor Shah sits on the Digital Advisory Board of The British Council and the government’s UK Industrial Development Board, as well as holding a seat on Alliance Manchester Business School’s Advisory Board. He is also a visiting professor of entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan School of Management.
Reflecting on the award, Professor Shah said: “I was absolutely floored when I found out the news - it took a while to sink in. I have always gone through life working on things that I’m passionate about, and doing what I can to make a difference. Receiving an honour like this makes you think and reflect on how far you’ve come, and is one of the few times in life you stop to feel pride in yourself.”
As a well-respected international entrepreneur, Vikas continues to develop entrepreneurship programmes, engaging the school with entrepreneurs globally and working closely with students as mentor and advisor to help them succeed. He also provides commentary and opinion on many aspects of the complex business world we live in.
