Alliance Manchester Business School has launched its MSc in International Healthcare Leadership in Manchester.
The course, which will see its first UK cohort join in March 2019, will teach students about the challenges facing today’s healthcare leaders. It will also outline the role clinicians, managers and the wider healthcare economy can play in moving healthcare services forward.
Led by Senior Fellow in Public Policy and Management, Dr Stephen Brookes, and international healthcare expert, Dr Judit Csiszar, MD the eight modules of the MSc programme are connected by four overarching themes: international perspectives, creativity and innovation, leading through networks and putting the patient at the heart of healthcare delivery.
Dr Brookes said: “The healthcare industry is under enormous pressure. Services are strained and there’s a challenge of the sustainability of the health services worldwide. This means introducing improvements to make the healthcare system more efficient and sustainable is extremely difficult. As a result, there’s a major need for strong leadership.
“Our MSc programme, which is already running in Singapore and Dubai, has been designed to equip students with the knowledge and leadership skills they need to keep improving our healthcare systems, while also understanding the cultural and regional governance differences that come with global healthcare management. All while putting the patient first.”
Alliance MBS has more than half a century of experience in healthcare leadership and has an extensive team researching public sector policy and management in the UK and internationally. Its health academics designed the first NHS training programme over 50 years ago. And today, its global community of healthcare management alumni includes more than 2,000 graduates, many of whom now work in influential healthcare leadership positions.
Dr Brookes added: “Our depth of experience in healthcare leadership means we have some of the brightest healthcare professionals working with our team. Between them, these individuals have an invaluable level of knowledge that prospective students can benefit from. Their experience and dedication will truly help develop and hone the skills of our future leaders.”
The two-year course will have two intakes in March and September and costs £16,000. Students will study via ‘blended learning’ which combines the very best interactive e-learning with The Manchester Method – the ‘action learning’ approach developed at The University of Manchester in the 1960s. This includes four experiential workshops where delegates undertake practical activities in small multinational groups and complete applied leadership challenges that are relevant to their workplace.
