Professor Gerard P Hodgkinson named as the 2024 Distinguished Scholar by the Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division of the Academy of Management

He is the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Scholar Award in recognition of the body of work he has developed over the past four decades, which has advanced understanding of the psychological foundations of organizational decision-making and strategic adaptation.

Delighted

Commenting on the news, Professor Hodgkinson, the immediate former Vice-Dean for Research of the Faculty of Humanities (2017-2022), said he was "truly delighted".

He added: "The award is the culmination of a lifetime's effort involving many other people with whom I have been privileged to work, in many capacities, from doctoral students and early career researchers to fellow senior colleagues. It reflects our collective efforts and I feel truly humbled and extremely privileged to be receiving this award on behalf of us all."

Exceptional contribution

The award, which was established in 2002, is made to one senior scholar each year who has made an exceptional contribution to understanding individual, relational, and/or collective cognition in organizational contexts throughout their careers.

The recipient must have conducted research that has had a significant influence on the field by publishing high-impact articles in premier journals. Recipients must also have contributed to the field by holding a significant leadership position with the MOC Division and/or the wider Academy, by serving as an action/associate editor of leading journals, and/or been an exceptional mentor of doctoral students.

Professor Hodgkinson will officially receive his award at next month’s Academy of Management conference, in Chicago, where he will deliver an acceptance speech.
